OSRS Woodcutting Guide For RuneScape Beginners
Woodcutting is a AFKable moneymaking skills in OSRS, much like cooking and fishing. For those who are not familiar with the term “AFK”, it means Away From Keyboard. These are tasks that do not require you to be in front of the screen for most of the time. For this OSRS Woodcutting Guide, we will be tackling the fastest training methods for both P2P and F2P woodcutting and some AFK money making methods.
For starters, let’s answer the question of why you need to level up your OSRS woodcutting skill. For starters, it can help you make money and also in leveling up your firemaking or fletching skill. Woodcutting is also necessary for a couple of important OSRS quests, such as Lost City, Legends, Lunar Diplomacy, Animal Magnetism, and more.
Things Needed For Woodcutting in OSRS
Full Lumberjack Outfit
Wearing the full lumberjack outfit gives you a 2.5% experience boost so if you’re reading this OSRS woodcutting guide to getting to level 99 as fast as possible, I highly recommend you get this outfit as soon as you can.
You can start wearing the outfit when you reach level 44 woodcutting. The lumberjack outfit can be obtained through the Temple Trekking minigame, the mission to get this full set should take you around 1 hour to complete.
OSRS Woodcutting Axes
- Bronze Axe – Level 1
- Iron Axe – Level 1
- Steel Axe – Level 6
- Black Axe – Level 11
- Mithril Axe – Level 21
- Adamant Axe – Level 31
- Rune Axe – Level 31
- Dragon Axe – Level 61
- Infernal Axe – Level 61
- Crystal Axe – Level 71
To maximize the logs you can cut per hour, you want to make sure you’re always using the best possible axe that you can have for your current woodcutting level.
Much like you fishing with a dragon harpoon, the Dragon axe has a special attack, when used you get a 3+ Woodcutting level boost, meaning you can use the special attack to cut trees you normally wouldn’t be able to cut yet.
The good news is every axe up to the Infernal axe has no extra requirements.
Woodcutting Guild Location
The Woodcutting Guild in Old School RuneScape is located in the southwestern corner of Hosidius. You can teleport there using the skills necklace.
OSRS Woodcutting Level 1 to 99
You’ll be breezing through your first levels of woodcutting so we recommended that you buy every single axe up until at least the Rune axe to get started.
Woodcutting Levels 1 to 15 (Regular Trees)
There are two locations where you can start such as underneath the Grand Exchange or Draynor (if you want to bank your logs) but we recommend you start at Lumbridge. You must make sure that you have an iron axe to start and have steel, black and mithril in your inventory to use as soon as you can.
During this step, you simply chop the regular trees behind the castle until your inventory is full and then sell them at the store nearby.
For woodcutting levels 1-15, 97 Regular Logs are cut. This should take you about 10 minutes to get done.
Woodcutting Levels 15 to 30 (Oak Trees)
For woodcutting Oak Trees, you can stay at Lumbridge and just continue to run to and from the store. Again, you have the option to go to other locations such as the Grand Exchange or Draynor village. But keep in mind that it really doesn’t matter where you are as the first levels of woodcutting don’t take long at all.
From woodcutting levels 15 to 30, 293 Oak Logs are cut. This should take you less than 30 minutes to complete.
Woodcutting Levels 30 to 45 (Willow Trees)
The best location for cutting these willow trees, in our opinion, is at Draynor Village. Be sure to start using your Adamant axe as soon as you reach level 31 woodcutting and your Rune axe as soon as you reach level 41. At level 44 woodcutting, you want to begin the Temple Trekking minigame and try to get the full lumberjack outfit for that 2.5% exp boost.
For woodcutting levels 30 – 45, 714 Willow Logs are cut. This should take you around 2.5 hours.
Woodcutting levels 45 to 90 (Teak Trees)
Teak trees are available starting at level 35 so you can start at an earlier level but keep in mind that they will be very slow to cut. You should use the shift-drop function to be more efficient in cutting teak trees. There is no nearby bank, if you do wish to bank your Teak trees you’ll have to teleport out and this will cut into your hourly experience rate.
You can use this method all the way to woodcutting level 99 or switch over to redwood trees at level 90 and make some extra gold.
For levels 45 – 99, 152,623 Teak Logs are cut. It will take you around 200 hours to reach 99.
For levels 45 – 90, 62,175 Teak Logs are cut. It will take you around 80 hours to reach 90.
Woodcutting Levels 90 to 99 (Redwood Trees)
If you’re using the shift-drop teak method to 99 it might be worth switching over to Redwood Trees as soon as you hit level 90. You’ll see a similar experience per hour but since the bank is close to the Woodcutting Guild, you’ll make some OSRS money as well.
For levels 90 – 99, 20,232 Redwood Logs are cut. It will take you around 117 hours to reach 99.
Woodcutting levels 45 – 99 (Teak Trees)
The best way to level up fast your woodcutting skill in Old school Runescape is by cutting teak trees with game-tick manipulation. If you’re considering this woodcutting training method, you should know that tick manipulation is not easy and may take a while for you to get it right. It’s also super click-intensive.
